LOVE HOWICK PARTNERS WITH WILDLANDS & YES TO MAKE HOWICK BETTER!
The “YES” initiative is a collaboration between government and business to provide more jobs and apprenticeships for South Africa’s 6 million unemployed youth. The proposal sees businesses offer year-long paid learning courses – effectively “on-the-job” training – to help bring the next generation into a working environment and give them opportunities they would have struggled to get previously.
“Our most grave and most pressing challenge is youth unemployment. It is therefore a matter of great urgency that we draw young people in far greater numbers into productive economic activity.” – Cyril Ramaphosa, 2018
30 youth (aged 18-27) joined the Love Howick ranks on 1 April for their year-long work placement and they will be working in all 9 of the Love Howick Projects (see www.lovehowick.com for details) thanks to the partnership with Wildlands and Nedbank.
These full time YES candidates will be involved in daily street cleanups, landscaping, clearing of alien vegetation, assisting with Love Howick’s efforts to feed, clothe and educate the unemployed and will also be attending regular training workshops to enhance skills. This project will have a notable impact on the whole Howick community and we appeal for citizens to get involved.
